Day II: Lunch at Teddy's

After a nice coffee and croissants breakfast and morning beach, we made plans to meet at Teddy's Lookout for lunch. Anton and Ric would walk up the hill and I would drive (not fit yet to attempt a 40 degree tilt climb!). So I packed the lunch and I drove up, saw a lost kangaroo on the way and had to slow the drive to 20kph just in case it decided to turn around and head my way, but it hoped forwards and disappear behind some trees into the distance.
I got there first and took these photos. This place is simply magnificent. From this height one can see very clearly the ocean floor and the subtleties of nature. I love how you can see the Great Ocean Road embracing the hills like trying to contain them from falling into the sea.

Vacation II Morning

The morning of day 2 found me awake at 8.30 am and like anticipated the night before I peeped behind the curtains and saw the sun shinning and the blue horizon. I sprang out of bed, got dressed in silent not to awake the mob, and headed downstairs for a brisk walk along the beach. My legs ached a bit, particularly my hip area and heels, but I remembered promising my physio I would walk, so I did and happy to be able to do so. My mind was just a step ahead of my feet, I wanted to reach the Ereskine River before turning back.

I never saw the Ereskine River reach the ocean in such a strong stream. It even looked deep and since I was dressed in 3/4 pants I decided not to attempt to cross. The morning was beautiful, the shore was being eroded by early joggers, walkers and birds.
I thought about the patterns left behind on the sand the day before, who made them, what do they mean? Those that are still visible in the morning before the tide sweeps them away forever and swallows them in swirls of sand and salt...are they destined to survive? Is the ocean selective of what it takes?

Vacation Night I

The first night was spectacular to say the least, warm and bathed in full moon. We had a picnic for dinner overlooking the ocean, we cooked chicken wraps with salad in the picnic area and bbq. The aroma of the lemon, mustard and oregano marinated chicken was the envy of the picnic area. How much nicer everything tastes when one eats delighted by the surroundings. From there we went for a walk on the main road and when we got tired we went back to the apartment to rest watching an episode of Buffy. The enthusiasm to wait for dawn in Lorne was overwhelming. My mind kept making plans of what to do in the morning after opening the curtain and looking at the sea.

Vacation I

Day one was awesome. After settling in the apartment we went on a mini walk along the shops, had an ice-cream and took in the shops vibe, checked out the restaurants menus. Then it was beach time, not hot enough for a swim. Laid down on the sand, breathed fresh air and walked along the beach. After a shower I went back to the beach with my camera and found new spots to photograph. The lack of waves to surf forced the boys to play frisbee.

Dia 1. Fantasico.

Vacation

Back at home now from our vacation and reflecting on the beautiful days spent in Lorne, VIC. Due to my operation and not knowing whether we would be able to have any vacation booking was last minute, so we only found a small place to stay, but just across the road from the beach. This was the view from the road and it was spectacular. Lorne was half full or half empty depending how you want to see it. To me it was half empty which means that I liked it cause it wasn't so crowded. The beach was nice and clean and the sea was its clear turquoise . As always the trip there was fun and this time it was also quick, no traffic at all and listening to new music from The Decemberists and old too. The new cd doesn't sound as nice as The Crane Wife, I still need to listen to it many times over to make a real judgement. When we hit the Great Ocean Road we put the old one in and enjoyed the beautiful tunes whilst driving around the hilly bends. As we arrived in Lorne Summer played on the cd player and it was just a perfect setting.
Summer arrives
with a length of lights
and Summer blows away
and quietly gets swallowed by a wave

Strange Weather

The strange weather we've been having left its toll in the sea. After a week of rain and wind, the beach looked so dirty. Weed accumulated in mounts and 20 metres in the water looked brown full of little pieces of trees, dirt and everything that nature deposited there. Was not very pleasant to swim in, but I hope with all my heart that the characteristic turquoise colour returns this Wednesday when we come back for a well deserved mini holiday.

Twilight at Lorne

Last night it was a perfect picture at Lorne. After the beautiful sunny beach day we had a picnic with these views and were just content. I think that sea gazing has become a favourite sport in our family. The Great Ocean Road was full of wet patches and small rocks and cascades. The sea was full of debris and seaweed, not a personal favourite, but still refreshing. I went in twice with precaution, there were only small waves so it was easy to stay on my feet.

Feliz Cumpleanos Oli

Happy Birthday cheeky cat. I love you so much, you are so cute and playful. I promise a lot of fun and celebrations.

Feliz Cumple gatito travieso. Te quiero tanto, sos tan precioso y jugueton.

Green Apple and Blood Orange

Last night was a steamy one in Melbourne. It is so weird having 85% humidity every day in a city where dry is what characterizes it. I am finding it very difficult to cope with myself. I can't seem to be able to wake up in the morning and when I do I don't want to move from the chair. I used to live in Buenos Aires, where humidity is the topic of conversation and there's even a saying "what kills you is the humidity" which seems to aid in the need to complain about how one feels completely exhausted every day. I do not know how people can go about their business in this weather. I hate it.
Last night to leave the house and forget about the humidity we went to have an ice cream at a little ice cream place on Camberwell Road just across the Rivoli. I love the flavours there. I had green apple and blood orange, it was so refreshing. I know some people would say that all ice cream is refreshing however, I find that fruit flavours increase the feeling of coolness and that it is much more rewarding than having creamy flavours.
The night ended taking photos of the night city scape and enjoying the car's air conditioner while listening to July Flames, Laura Veirs' latest cd.
