Remembering

The weather was shocking today in Melbourne. It was just like it used to be 20 years ago when I first arrived. Four seasons in one day, like the song says. It brought back a lot of memories from those days so long ago...I couldn't believe how far back I was thinking about. Men, 20 years ago it sounds so far. And it is. My son was only in gestation when I used to visit this area of Melbourne once a month first, then twice, then once a week until he was born one day in September. Today we were in the area again for a different reason: Melbourne University Open Day! My son is looking at his options for next year and we attended some information sessions. I am so excited for him. The best years of his life ahead of him. I was listening to a professor explaining what Biomedicine is and what it leads to and I felt a rush of emotions thinking of how precious knowledge is and how happy I am for Anton to be entering a university and learning to think critically and develop his knowledge. I wish him all the best for this year's exams and I am already very proud of him.

Veinte anos suena tan lejos.

Seems Like a Long Time

It's been a long time since I last posted. After a week and half of enduring a cold/sore-throat/chest infection/sinus infection/cough I am determined to write a little before going to bed.
I am still not well. I am deaf from one ear and the congestion is still there. I am on my second lot of antibiotics and they don't seem to be potent enough to get rid off this miserable illness. I absolutely hate coughing.
Apart from that and a series of visits to the doctor's I have been watching movies and trying to do a bit of assignment writing.
I watched "In Bruges" for the second time and I liked it even more. In Bruges is a 2008 black comedy film, directed and written by Martin McDonagh, starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as hit-men.
The movie has been filmed in the city of Bruges in Belgium, a beautiful and picturesque place that I now wish I could go and photograph. The story develops slowly in a series of dialogues and conversations between the two gangsters who are hiding and waiting for their boss to contact them. To say more would be to give it away. It is very entertaining, funny and the script is brilliant.
Another movie we saw last weekend before I got really sick was "Inception" with Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Christopher Nolan. This one is a sci-fi film about dreaming and being able to control what happens in them. Loved it. A little hard to follow though. I'm sure that I miss little pieces of the puzzle along the way and due to my blocked ears (that is the day that everything started! Oh and I'm sure I had a temperature too since I wasn't interested in the popcorn or the chocolate).

Anyway some good came out of being sick and missing on school camp. I was able to do most of my assignments which otherwise I don't know how I was going to get them done. It took me a lot longer than usual. Lots of research involved and when you are not feeling well studying is not the best medicine.
Back to work tomorrow. I'll see how I go.

Photo Exhibition

Is that time again when my students get to show their talent on the annual Grade 6 Photography Exhibition. When I started this year I didn't know what to expect as the students were very different from last year.
During the first week of Term 2 we started to select the images that will make up the exhibition. 58 in total, one per student. It is an arduous process as I have to sit one on one with every student and sift through the 50 images that each of them took during the workshop. They select the one that they think is the best and then using Photoshop we get it ready for printing.
There is also a bit of writing to do as they must name their image and write a brief recount of their learning process.
Last Friday, after a week of hard work framing and cutting, I was able to hung them in the hall and see them as a collection. As a witness of their learning I am utterly impressed with the results and I am very proud of them and of myself for getting to the end of the program and still be whole.

Thanks to everyone who was involved and helped made this possible.
Please visit:
www.we-frame.blogspot.com to see some of the work.
I have not yet uploaded the images that make up our exhibition, but I will in the next few days.

Adios Merimbula

On Friday we started the way back. Goodbye Merimbula. There was only one more stop in Eden.

Mini beach

I went for a small drive from the wharf and came to this small rocky beach quite hidden in the bushes. The tide was high so I took some shots before the water covered the rocks.

Fishing Series

Whilst the boys were fishing I walked around the wharf and payed attention to those things that make up the world of fishing. I started to look at details around the wharf and decided to group them into a fishing series that I will sometime put together. I really loved looking at these things from a different light.

From Wharf to Wharf

At the Merimbula Wharf we delighted ourselves with a magnificent and luxurious lunch. The view is also beautiful, but the atmosphere of the restaurant is different from Tathra's. It is a bit on the pricey side and the standard of food is also a little classier as well as the service. The lunch was lovely, the view spectacular, but I still prefer Tathra's Wharf. Maybe I am not sophisticated enough for a waiter to tell me the specials from memory and to serve me the drink. The food was delightful and I could not finish it!

Around Merimbula

After settling in we drove and walked around town. Merimbula is nice, but too big. Even the Holiday Park was huge. For families with young children I suppose this is the place for a holiday since everything is contained inside it. We walked/skated around the lake and drove a little to get to know the surroundings. We had planned a full day ahead so we left the cabin ready for eveerything.

At Merimbula

On Thursday morning we arrived in Merimbula and we stayed at Merimbula Beach Holiday Park. The cabins were really nice and had a nice deck to look at the sea. We were also a few steps from this beautiful view of the beach. The nice weather seemed to follow us wherever we went.
